The sea is quite shallow so it is an ideal beach for families. Elafonissi beach is also great for younger children as it is in fact a lagoon not deeper than 1 metre. The pink colored beach is surrounded by a beautiful cedar forest. On the north western shore of Crete, the area of Falassarna is a sequence of 5 beaches separated by dunes and rocks. These beaches are probably the most renowned in Europe for their beauty. Stay there for sunset, the view is stunning !

Its archaeological museum has been recently renovated and boasts an amazing collection of ancient artefacts, spanning through the whole Minoan culture. In Heraklion as well, take a stroll in the old port and admire the old town fortification walls. Head to Knossos, considered as Europe’s oldest city. The ruins date back to 7000 BC so you will feel like transported back in time.
