The Notre-Dame de l'Immaculée Conception Cathedral of Antibes was probably built on a shrine dedicated to Diana. The building was awarded the title of cathedral as for many years it was home to the Bishop of Antibes.
Although renovated throughout the centuries (the seventeenth, eighteenth and twentieth) the original building was built in the twelfth century, as proven by the square bell of the old lookout tower. The ochre cathedral facade was classified as an Historical Monument after the Second World War.
In 1946, Pablo Picasso moved into the Château des Grimaldi in Antibes. After his stay in this wonderful working space, he bequeathed 23 paintings and 44 drawings to the city of Antibes. Thus, the Musée Grimaldi became the Picasso Museum.
You can admire the works by the artist such as La Joie de vivre, Satyre, faune et centaure au trident, Le Gobeur d'oursins, La Femme aux oursins, Nature morte à la chouette et aux trois oursins and La Chèvre. Other modern artists are represented in the Picasso Museum.
Among them, Arman, Ben, Calder, César, Ernst, Klein, Modigliani and Picabia.
