A weekend in Carvoeiro

Located only 5 kilometres from the city of Lagos, Carvoeiro is a former fishing village. Carvoeiro is built into steep red cliffs and centres around a beautiful cove with a sheltered beach. The town has an interesting history, with a 1670 defensive fort right outside of the town, as well as the shrine of Nossa Senhora, overlooking the sea. Located atop of the cliffs, the Alfazinma’s lighthouse is also a popular visit, with fantastic views on the sea. Short breaks to Carvoeiro are also well known for its nightlife, beginning at dusk, with many nightclubs, bars as well as great restaurants of local seafood cuisine.
