Greece offers one of the hottest and driest climate in Europe and with temperatures rarely falling under 15 degrees in the winter, the country is definitely a great beach destination. Greece boasts : 1,400 islands including Crete the largest one, Mykonos, famous for its nightlife or the volcanic Santorini. Some beaches like Balos Beach in Crete are as close as it gets to tropical beaches. With white sand and turquoise waters, the island is a perfect beach destination for your short breaks to Greece.
No weekend in Greece would be complete without trying out the fabulous Greek cuisine. Home of real Mediterranean cuisine, Greece offers many authentic tavernas to try out some of its most celebrated dishes such as Moussaka, made of minced beef or lamb with eggplants, tomatoes and onions, Pastitsi, lamb Souvlaki or Stifado.
Greece weekend breaks are also a great opportunity to discover its rich history. In Crete, visit Heraklion Archaeological Museum. Renovated in 2014, the museum is a must-see only surpassed by its counterpart in Athens. It offers a vast Minoan collection and a great overview of the island’s history.
If you would rather visit monuments, Crete also boasts many ancient palaces to visit. In Athens, visit the famous Acropolis, landmark of the classical Greek architecture, as well as the Parthenon and the temple of Athena.
