One of the real hubs of the city’s commercial life, the Covered Market, also known as the Spice Market, is central to life in Fort-de-France. The market was established in 1886, however it was destroyed in 1890. It was then rebuilt piece by piece, in 1901. Major restoration work followed in 1989.

Fruit of the hard work of the horticulturist, Jean-Philippe Thoze, the Jardin de Balata is organised around a family home with a typical creole architecture. In this garden, the horticulturist has been able to let his passions run wild by taking on numerous influences from all around the world. The project brings together a rare collection of exotic plants for a result that is both subtle and grandiose.
