The 3 castles of Husseren-les-Châteaux stand out extraordinarily in the landscape. Head off on a walk of approximately 10 kilometres, over 3 hours with a 370m height difference to reach the summit. Built between the 11th and the 13th century, 3 keeps remain today which, at the time, formed a single castle. Once you have reached the summit, you will discover a view over the plains which is worth the effort.
The Château du Hohlandsbourg, symbol of Habsburg policies in Alsace, is one of the largest monuments left by the family in Alsace. Even if it was abandoned after the Thirty Years War, it still largely reflects the splendour associated with this family, who participated in the great historical theatre of Europe.
A historical monument, the castle continued to be restored from the mid-nineteenth century on. And from the top of its hill, sheltered by the ramparts, the Hohlandsbourg continues to write its history.
This Franciscan church dedicated to St Matthew, dates from the late 13th century. Its architecture, representative of that of the mendicant orders, benefited a few years ago from a careful restoration project which enabled the church to regain its original state.
Thanks to its astonishing acoustic qualities, the protestant church plays host to numerous concerts each year, including several held as part of the Colmar International Music Festival.
