From Le Fayet station, the Mont-Blanc tramway takes you right up to the snow-capped peaks. Climb on board a cog railway, and enjoy a trip across stunning Haute-Savoie landscapes, on the steep mountainside. The tram stops at the stations of Saint-Gervais, Motivon, Voza Pass, Bellevue and finally at the Nid d'Aigle ("eagle's nest"). At each station, you can get off to enjoy the view and take the next tram if you wish, to get the most out of each stage. In Bellevue, you will be rewarded with an exceptional panorama over the Bionnassay glacier.
Village and Mountain Cirque at Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval
In Haute-Savoie, the village that is nicknamed "Queen of the Alps" is of course ranked among the "most beautiful villages of France". The village of Six-Fer-à-Cheval is located in an exceptional natural environment, some 80% of the land is classified as a nature reserve.
The village of Six-Fer-à-Cheval comprises 24 hamlets on an area of more than 12,000 hectares.
The six classified sites of the village of Six-Fer-à-Cheval are: the cirque fer à Cheval, Waterfalls, the Gorges des Tines, the Alpine pastures and peaks. This area offers some wonderful walks.
Gorges de la Diosaz
In the Chamonix Valley, the Gorges de la Diosaz is a natural wonder that offers some truly spectacular views. Only accessible between June and September, the Gorges de la Diosaz area is best explored with a walk which should take around an hour and a half, along an easy track (not suitable for pushchairs). The trail leads you past a number of panels which explain the history and geology of the region around the Gorges de la Diosaz. As you walk among the reliefs carved by erosion, the roaring torrent and the bubbling waterfalls you cannot fail to appreciate the wild and grandiose nature of this unique spot.
Merlet Animal Park
Merlet Animal Park is the perfect opportunity to observe up close more than 80 animal species that live wild in the mountains. During a 1 or 2 hr walk, you can meet all kinds of animals.
Chamois, marmots, ibex, sheep, fallow deer or Sika deer are the most famous players from this wild herd likely to come face to face with a group of visitors at a bend in the path. In summer, free entertainment is put on.
Located at an altitude of 2,352m in the Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve, Lac Blanc will enchant all those who appreciate mountain scenery. Some beautiful walks lead to the lake.
Discover the body of water dominated by Mont Blanc's silhouette. Weather permitting, the highest peak in France is reflected in the lake's turquoise waters just like a picture postcard.
>Before setting off once more on other walks, take the time to picnic on the shore. The hardiest can attempt a lightning dip in the glacial lake waters.
