I don’t normally like to leave reviews if I can’t give 5 stars but I feel like there are some things that people should be aware of with this accommodation. If you’ve read through the reviews, you’ll know that a lot of them are somewhat negative. I want to be clear, even though I have given 3-stars, I would like to state that we still had a great time.

We booked this through Crystal Ski and our accommodation was advertised at a 2 Bedroom Apartment, Self Catered, for 6-8 people. Since we were a group of 6 adults, we thought this would be perfect. The Apartment itself actually had a third bedroom with bunk beds in but it didn’t have a door (just a curtain) and it didn’t have a window to the outside. It had a window but it opened to the Hallway, so obviously we never opened it. 1 Bedroom had a double bed, the other twin beds, the ‘third room’ 2 bunk beds and the last bed was a sofa bed in the lounge area. If you were a group of 8 people it would have felt very cramped, especially if it was 8 adults. We barely had enough space for 6 but you may argue that it was just about perfect. The dining table could only sit 6 so it would have been terrible if you had 8 people. There was also no way to adjust the temp of the apartment so it was stuck at 23 degrees the entire time, which made sleeping a nightmare, even with the windows open. I understand that fixed temp controls are common in Europe in the Winter/Summer months but it would have been nice to be able to at least turn the heating off.

The kitchen, while small, got the job done and it had everything that you would need, including a dishwasher, a toaster and 2 different coffee machines. The kitchen had a few problems though. The first one was that it had a small draining board and the supplied dishwasher never seemed to work properly. There were no clear instructions to get it to work and it took several attempts to turn it on but it still never cleaned our dishes properly. We ended up having to wash and dry everything as we went along. Not a huge deal but annoying when you have 6 people to clean up for. The second problem was with the oven, it never seemed to get hot enough, so we struggled to cook stuff in it. Again, this may have been user error but I still wanted to point it out. The hob worked okay so we just used that for most of our meals.

One thing that did annoy me, was that they would not supply more than one bin bag, although they did give me another one after I asked at Reception. We did have to buy some of our own in the end, as we went through a lot. They also said that we had to buy our own toilet rolls - they only gave us 2. On the note of the toilet, there was only one, however it was separate from the bathroom so that helped a bit. The room with the double bed had an en-suite but it was just a shower and a sink. They did supply us with dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid, they seemed to last all week.

The spa was great imo, there were several steam rooms and saunas so there was plenty of room for everyone. They also had a pool and a small gym with CV equipment but I never used that. There is a ski rental shop in the hotel, which is very handy and there are lockers in the basement. They aren’t heated but they get the job done, as others have said, I would take your boots up to your room with you. The Ski lockers lead right onto the slopes for a true ski in/out experience. The run is a blue so it’s a great one to warm up on. There were few shops/restaurants/bars not too far away, only about a 15 min walk, everything you would need.

People have moaned about the décor but tbh, it’s everything that you’d expect from a ski lodge. It’s cute and rustic, we loved it. Yes, it’s probably a bit dated but it never bothered us. The reception staff were very friendly and there was also a bakery delivery service that we never used but other reviews have mentioned that it’s great. Overall, we had a great time and we made it work, so I’m confident that you will too, just keep in mind what I have said.

We had a great family stay in Hauts Bois. Ski access was great, getting to the shops an easy walk and then one elevator up. Flooring in one of the bedrooms was a bit tired and could do with some maintenance. Other than that, couldn't fault it. The staff were all wonderful!
