We booked a night at the Pierre & Vacances residence in La Rochelle for a romantic getaway.
€115 a night: it's neither cheap nor exorbitant… so naturally, we expected a minimum level of comfort.
The residence is advertised as renovated. However, the atmosphere there is still rather dated. Nothing dramatic, but the contrast between the promise and the reality is surprising.
We had booked for two adults and discovered an apartment equipped with bunk beds and a sofa bed as the main sleeping space. Sleeping on a sofa bed for a night "for two" is already not ideal. Sleeping on a slanted sofa bed, with the feeling of spending the night in a V-shape, is even more problematic.
Another point: cleaning is advertised as included, but we were asked to remove the sheets and towels ourselves and put them in a bag. This might be common practice in holiday residences, but at this price for a single night, it's surprising. In summary: the concept of a residence explains some of the choices, but the experience didn't live up to our expectations. It's a shame, because the location in La Rochelle is still pleasant.
P.S.: The toilets weren't very clean. There were marks on the floor.
