Bureau des Guides
Off for a few days in the Ariège Pyrenees and want to make the most of the environment to indulge in some activities? Then head for the Bureau des Guides – they’ll be able to guide you. Whether you want to go snowshoeing, mountain biking, skiing, caving or mountaineering, you’ll find everything you’re looking for. Activities take place according to your level of ability, so even the very young can enjoy what’s on offer.
Le Couloubret Baths
The Baths at Le Couloubret have preserved the facade of the old thermal baths in Couloubret d'Ax-les-thermes and the interior has been decorated in a fun way, evoking an atmosphere of ancient Rome.
Wander among the columns and walls decorated with pottery, and benefit from the virtues of these thermal waters, at a temperature of 33° and 38° in different pools.
As well as the bathing rooms ("frigidarium","caldarium" and "vaporarium"), relaxation spaces allow you to try various relaxation methods, both oriental and Nordic, with a hammam and sauna.
Outside, two pools equipped with water jets welcome bathers for a soothing and revitalising moment.
Ascou-Pailhères Ski Resort
A small ski resort nestled among the pine trees a fifteen minute drive from Ax-les-Thermes, Ascou-Pailhères offers a ski area with 20km of pistes. You will find 14 marked pistes with 5 ski lifts and 1 chairlift.
The snow is always abundant and of excellent quality. The beginners' slope, the "Clairière", is set slightly apart, with its own button lift, allowing children and beginners to gain confidence. Higher up, the budding club skiers can train on more difficult slopes! In a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, tiny ones can enjoy snow games and play on the tobogganing track away from the pistes, for parents' peace of mind. Easy slopes allow young skiers to learn and progress with ease. Other, steeper slopes allow seasoned skiers to test themselves far from the crowds of the larger resorts.
ESF Les Vallées d'Ax
Whatever your current level and however keen you are to improve, the instructors at the French ski school, ESF, will help you achieve your goals. They are enthusiastic and dedicated and they know the ski area inside out. Take advantage of their knowledge while you are here and join a group class or have an individual lesson. You can try skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, handiski, biathlon, snowshoe walks or ski hikes. Kids from 3 years are welcome at ski school too - let your little ones learn while you enjoy the slopes child-free for a few hours.
La Maison des loups
Not far from Ax-les-Thermes, Orlu is home to this animal park which allows visitors to observe and encounter around twenty wolves.
In a well-preserved natural environment you can watch the various packs of wolves from Europe, North America and there's even a pack of Arctic wolves. Each day, visitors can watch them being fed and can enjoy various audio and video presentations: you will learn all about this animal which has returned to the Pyrenees.
You can even feed the wolves yourself, thanks to the viewing tunnel.
