    • Abbaye aux Dames - Women's Abbey

Abbaye aux Dames - Women's Abbey

The Abbaye-aux-Hommes has been an important site in the city of Caen for the past nine centuries. The abbey, which features sober yet grandiose architecture, was founded by William the Conqueror to obtain the pardon of Pope Leo IX, who condemned his marriage with Matilda, considered too close a relative of the monarch.

Despite the Hundred Years War, the Religious Wars and the two world wars, the Abbaye-aux-Hommes has retained its lustre. Built in beautiful dressed stone, the Abbey took on its current form in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, whilst maintaining the Gothic and Romanesque style buildings.
The towers topped by Gothic spires therefore coexist in harmony with the Romanesque nave in this majestic site!

This 360° projection immerses you in the heart of the action along the pontoons of Arromanches and in the bunkers, in order that the visitor can better understand the events of this historic day.

    • Basilica of St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Basilica of St. Thérèse of Lisieux

The St.Theresa of Lisieux Sanctuary is famous for its environment, composed of the basilica, shelters and general services. Built in 1929, the basilica is the second most important pilgrimage site in France after Lourdes.

St. Theresa of Lisieux was beatified in 1923 and canonised in 1925. The basilica pays tribute to her and invites visitors to learn about the saint's devotion.
Listed as a Historic Monument, the basilica is fronted by a grand forecourt and presents a composite (Roman-Byzantine) architecture. Its dimensions bear comparison with the largest cathedrals. Indeed, this is one the biggest churches built in the twentieth century.
