Recommended sightseeing in the area:
- Opatija: Stroll around the fashionable tourism capital of the Adriatic. It used to be a summer and winter holiday destination for the Austro-Hungarian nobility due to the benefits of its Mediterranean climate. Now walks through its parks and along the coastal paths (12 km by the sea) and swims in small coves provide the rare combination of the pleasures of nature's charms and a high standard of living steeped in the spirit of the days gone by.
- Učka Nature Park: This mountain range, rich and varied in flora and fauna, is an example of unspoilt nature. Its wealth of natural charms includes limestone formations in the Vrane area and the top of Mount Učka where an old tower stands which has inspired many painters over the years. Treat yourself to an unforgettable view of the nearby islands and Opatija Riviera which lies at the foot of the mountain, caressed by the fresh air of dense forests in the evening.
- Skrad: Croatia's treasure in the heart of Gorski Kotar. This village sits above a canyon where you'll find Zeleni vir (Green whirlpool) and Vrazji prolaz (the Devil's passage) and is encircled by forests with wonderful views of the surrounding mountain peaks, the river Kupe and Slovenia. 40 km of marked cycle trails and lots of caves make Skrad and its local area a real paradise for body and mind.
- The island of Košljun: A mere 10-minute boat ride from Punat is all that is needed to transport you to this spiritual and scenic paradise. The Franciscan monastery houses ethnographic, numismatic and sacred collections, while the protected forest park of Košljun is unmissable for any visitor to the island of Košljun.
