What to do in Rivière Noire

All resort activities and events Rivière Noire

The Marguery Exclusive Villas residence is located away from mass tourism destinations in Black River, on the west coast of Mauritius. It enjoys a unique geographic location between the sea and the mountains, in the centre of the village and amenities.

Worth seeing in the surrounding area:

- La Preneuse beach is 400 metres from the residence (a 5 minute walk); Flic en Flac beach, 18 km away; Tamarin beach, 2 km away; Morne beach, 18 km away.

- Sea tours - cruises, experiencing dolphins - fishing, kite surf, surfing, paddleboards, hiking, trekking and more, all within 10 minutes.

- Black River Gorges National Park: limpid rivers and waterfalls abound in the Black River Gorges National Park, which provides a splendid backdrop for relatively easy 2- to 7-hour hikes. This vast, 6,574-hectare natural park is home to many rare and endemic plants such as Ebony, Labourdonnaisia, Mapou, and exotic plants such as the tecoma, mango tree and Chinese guava tree. The varieties of rare birds delight ornithologists who can observe tropic birds, pink pigeons, kestrels, and echo parakeets (Mauritius parakeets, the rarest in the world).

- Casela World of Adventure in Cascavelle: Casela Park offers an adventure-packed experience for the whole family in a wild natural environment. It offers activities that will mean you can get up close to the park's animals - lions, cheetahs, rhinos and giraffes - through safaris and accompanied by handlers. The ornithological park boasts 150 bird species from 5 continents. Among the outdoor activities on offer canyoning and zip wires promise thrills aplenty and an intense experience of nature.

- Chamarel, seven coloured earth: a natural curiosity on the island, the clearing in Chamarel reveals a range of colours including ochre, brown, red and purple. Originating from very old volcanic flows containing variously coloured mineral oxides, the earth is unique in that each colour remains intact and does not mix. The resort also has an enclosure of giant centenarian tortoises that children will love.

- Le Morne Brabant: an iconic landmark on Mauritius and a classified UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, Le Morne Brabant is a mountain largely surrounded by the lagoon, which reaches 555 m in height. Its incredibly steep slopes can nevertheless be climbed, and the summit offers an exceptional view. The "Boucle d'Oreille", an endemic plant species and the island's floral emblem since 1992, only grows on its slopes. Today, this sanctuary for "runaway slaves" serves as a memorial to the island's colonial era.
