So we have checked in, the double room is fine but the second bedroom has no door so lack of privacy and when anyone leaves the double bedroom to go to the toilet it wakes them up. The worse thing is they didn't give us the fob to open the automatic doors at night so we had to wait for 30 minutes for another person staying to come to open the doors at around 12. There is also no ski locker which is not what we expected.
Great location and service
Pool jacuzzi sauna spa hammam all brilliant, esp thanks to Elliot plagiste one of the staff for always going beyond and above well done Elliot I hope you get to read this
location 5 stars but for the huge price paid lots of issues :
-rooms are old
- not very cleaned
-safery is a big issue and the elevator being out of order many times, I got stuck in it several times but fortunately I am not claustrophobic ,did not seem a big concern for the personnel of the hotel
-we could not cook so much as the fire alarm was too sensitive and wake up the whole building
- reception people are nice but slightly incompetent when is about thinking out of their little box ( indications or again security of the elevator )
L'Amara is a very nice collection of self-catering appartment blocks, centred around a large reception and bar area in the main building. There are five blocks and they are connected by underground tunnels/ corridors, although mostly it's easier to use the main doors and just walk over ground. They overlook the Morzine valley and the views from our (south west) facing appartment were quite incredible.
Our room could have done with a little attention, the bedroom was small and there was a TV that stuck out into the already small area around the bed (I'd just remove it as there is a large TV in the living area). The wardrobe was almost inaccessible due to it's proximity to the bed and bedside table.
However, it was well equipped and warm. The view from the balcony I could live with forever (although the door to the balcony needs some attention).
They were great at reception, taking daily orders for morning bread and pastries was very nice.
The pool downstairs was too cold to make much use of. But the ski & boot room was adequate and there is a self-service laundry in the basement.
It's quite difficult to critisice L'Amara really, it's a great place to stay, convienient and well run - try to make sure that you have a room with a south facing balcony!
