    • Abbaye aux Dames - Women's Abbey

Abbaye aux Dames - Women's Abbey

These two places of worship are both unmissable. The first building was erected around 1060 by the Duchess Mathilde, wife of William and is now the home of the Basse-Normandy regional council.

The Abbaye aux Hommes, founded by William in 1060, includes the Saint-Etienne church and the convent buildings, now the town hall of Caen.

    • Basilica of St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Basilica of St. Thérèse of Lisieux

In the early twentieth century, the project of constructing a basilica to celebrate the recent canonization of St. Thérèse gave rise to heated protests in Lisieux. Those who opposed construction pointed out the number of religious buildings already existing in the town, as well as the uncertain future of the cult of St. Thérèse. They felt that the fervour she inspired, mainly in French soldiers during World War I, would not last.

Nonetheless, construction of the basilica began in 1929. The walls of the basilica and its crypt are covered with mosaics that convey the saint’s message.
A reliquary under the dome contains bones from her right arm.

The architect was told to build “as big, as beautiful and as fast as possible.” Visitors can decide for themselves how well the second instruction was carried out!

    • Bayeux Aventure

Not only will the children have a great time but parents will also be able to make the most of it by testing out the paint-balling for example.
And if you have worked up an appetite after all these activities, a food stand offers you various set menus and sweet treats.

    • Birds Hill

      Birds Hill

Opened in 1994 for the 50th anniversary of D-Day, the Colline aux Oiseaux is a vast expanse of greenery and flowers covering more than 17 hectares.

The various gardens offer plenty of walks: the large rose garden, the French town garden, the twin city garden or the maze.

Normandy is shown in 1/1000th scale, and the region's specialities and particularities are also on display. This is the ideal place to relax and to discover a wide variety of plants.

    • Bords de l'Aure

      Bords de l'Aure

Located on the outskirts of Bayeux, the Aure valley is a wetland where streams, ditches, bodies of water, ponds, reed beds, etc. can all be found. So many environments which offer remarkable fauna and flora. Bodies of water form and house aquatic fauna (insects, amphibians, mammals, etc.).
When the weather is nice, it is very easy to observe and hear the green frog there. A plank path grants access for people with reduced mobility to a part of the site and a signed route means you can calmly cover 1.3km.
